The End of an Era

Three years ago today MadHatter embarked on her school career back in California.  She would attend twice a week for 3 hours at a time.  We have to ease into these things when you are 2 1/2.   And we have to ease Mommy into being away from her first baby for any amount of time.

She had a hearty breakfast...

She got dressed.  She had picked out her outfit the night before (with a bit of help from Mama but had an opinion on her clothes even at 2 1/2).  I got her to pose with her Daddy for one picture but she wasn't going to sit for too many more.  She had places to be and coloring and pasting to do.

Since the school was right down the block, we took off on foot.  Stinkerbell (not quite 1) was the only one who got to ride in the car that day...

We got sidetracked by a snail crossing our path.  We waited until he made it safely to the other side and then proceeded on our way to Miss Andi's class.

Not an ounce of separation anxiety in her.  She was just so happy to be in school.

Exactly three years to the day have gone by since she made that first foray into her educational world.  In those three years she has grown from a precocious toddler into an inquisitive little girl.  She has blossomed in so many ways and learned so many things.

Since we head stateside tomorrow and don't return until she has to report to "real school" (her words), today was her last day at Goldfish.  She was a bit pensive about saying goodbye to her friends, as they will not be joining her at her new school.  And she was heavyhearted while hugging the Misses for the last time as she now realizes that she won't be seeing them each weekday as she has for over two years.  But the pride in her voice when she told them all that she would be going to Nido when she got back from vacation lifted everyone's mood.  She told them all about the test she passed "all by herself" and how they said she was ready for Kindergarten so she wouldn't be coming back to the baby school (yep, as of this morning she is too old for it).  She was so proud of her accomplishments.

And I was so proud of her.

She has long ago left behind the toddler she was when she started on this preschool journey.  But sometimes when I look at her I still see that doe eyed, cherub cheeked munchkin looking back and can't believe she is ready to head to school.  And then, at others, I see this...

The pictures don't lie.  She is a Kindergartner.

Enjoy your winter break MadHatter. School starts in 6 weeks.
